St. Matthew's Parish has been serving the city of San Mateo since 1863. The first two churches were located in downtown San Mateo. Now the Church and School are located on the tree-lined site at 9th and El Camino Real. The exact address is One Notre Dame Ave. At the center of the property is a beautiful church, one of the first to be built after the Second Vatican Council. You are welcome to join our vibrant faith community when we celebrate the Eucharist, thanking God Our Father in Jesus for all His gifts to us, especially the gift of His Spirit Who lives in our hearts. The church continues the daily ministries of a downtown church: three Masses each day and confessions in the small chapel during the week, and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Monday through Friday. We also have a dedicated outreach to the poor and needy of the community through a lively St. Vincent de Paul Society and through our participation in a community organizing effort called PIA (Peninsula Interfaith Action.)

Also on the property is St. Matthew's School with over 600 students. We are very proud of our school and its history of educating children from kindergarten to eighth grade for over 75 years. Visit the St. Matthew Catholic School website for more information.

A Lourdes grotto greets you if you enter the property from El Camino Real. The grotto provides a beautiful, quiet respite for prayer and reflection, just a few steps away from the bustle and traffic of the main thoroughfare of San Mateo.

As you browse through our website, you will be introduced to our priests, deacon, religious, lay ministers and leaders. We are here to serve you as best we can and, in serving you serve the God Who has called us in Jesus. I hope that you will find in our parish family a spiritual home for you and your family and that you will join in some of the parish ministries.

Your Brother in Christ,

Father Anthony E. McGuire
